Travel Writing Tips 4

Travel Writing Tips gathered from “Travel Writing” by L. Peat O’Neil, chapter 5

1. “Clever turns of phrase, allusions, metaphors, contrast, vocabulary, juxtaposition, and other tricks of the trade will keep the story moving stylishly (P.131).

2. “The details you select to tell the travel story should demonstrate something of the character who took the trip — you” (P. 133)

3. “Boring writing lacks surprise. The sentence rhythm is repetitious, the words are predictable and sound like other sentences and phrases we’ve heard before the lurk in the subconscious” (P. 146)
