Brigid Edmunds, a junior Communication Arts student at Marywood University, sits down and signs into her Facebook. Her current profile picture captures her expression that is nothing but authentic as she cradles a fuzzy rabbit in her arms. Her jaw is dropped and her eyes are lit up, communicating a distinct joy for life in that very moment.
The photo was taken at Blueberry Hill Farm in Sneem, Ireland during her recent trip abroad. After speaking with Edmunds, I gathered that her feelings towards study abroad would link to a face similar to the one made in her profile picture, if she was that expressive during an average conversation.
In fact, when asked what her favorite part of the trip was she had no straight answer simply because she liked so much of it.
“There were so many amazing things that I saw and experienced. I’m just thankful for the people I got to travel with, they were lovely.”
Through these experiences, Edmunds has been noticing some changes within herself as she settles into life back in Northeastern PA. She finds that through her travels she has learned to appreciate the world and let go of the little things she once gave importance to.
“Life is too short to worry and fuss over things. I learned to just get on the plane, kiss the Blarney stone, break the rules once in awhile, it will all work out,” said Edmunds.
With these new found discoveries within herself, Edmunds is ready to take her future by storm and continue to travel throughout the world now that she knows what she is capable of.
“I want to travel more. Like I said, there is so much to see and I feel like I am doing a disservice by staying in NEPA” said Edmunds.
However, she should worry not because the gears in her head are already turning for her next excursion. She would like to schedule a spring break trip to Italy. In addition, she talks about journalism internships in places like Jerusalem further down the road.
Edmunds adds, “This trip impacted me in the fact that I’m less afraid to travel. I feel like after this, I’m comfortable leaving home for an extended period of time. I know I will survive.”
It sounds like Edmunds has caught the travel bug – I don’t know about you but I can’t wait to see where she goes with it!
